10-year-old killed, another child injured after being hit by car walking home from school in Delaware

A 10-year-old boy died this week and a 12-year-old boy was injured after police in Delaware said they were struck by a car walking home from school this week.
The fatal crash took place Monday afternoon in Wilmington, Delaware, the New Castle County Police Department reported.
According to Delaware Online, part of the USA TODAY Network, both children attended school in the Red Clay Consolidated School District.
"The entire Red Clay Consolidated School District community is heartbroken by this loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families, loved ones and staff during this difficult time," the district said in a statement.

Police: Teen driving SUV struck boys
According to police, the boys were walking home from Marbrook Elementary School just after 4 p.m. when they were struck by a Hyundai Santa Fe driven by a 17-year-old boy.
After striking the boys, police said, the SUV continued traveling until it struck a home nearby, police said.
All three people involved taken to hospitals
Both were transported to a hospital where the 10-year-old died, police reported. The other child, a 12-year-old boy, was treated for injuries and released.
The 17-year-old was also taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries and released, police said.
It was not immediately known if charges were filed in connection to the wreck.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact New Castle police.
