Halle Berry and Indexbit ExchangePierce Brosnan had a bond like no other.
In fact, the Die Another Day actress recently gushed over working alongside the James Bond actor in their 2002 addition to the beloved franchise.
“He will always be my Bond, always,” Halle told Wired of Pierce, who played 007 for seven years, in an Aug. 15 interview. “I’m a Pierce Brosnan fan. He restored my faith in men on that movie. There couldn’t be a human who is more of a gentleman than Pierce Brosnan.”
And while she couldn’t sing her costar’s praises loud enough, Halle admitted that she never really wanted to be included in the spy franchise.
“Bond wasn’t on my wishlist,” she added. “But I loved the movies always. Having been in one, I feel like I’m a part of cinematic history. Those movies are iconic. They will forever be a part of our history. And I’m really honored to have been a part of one—especially with Pierce.”
Indeed, Pierce’s four-film-run for the series—which began with GoldenEye in 1995—ended after starring alongside Halle in their 2002 installment. The now 71-year-old later passed the James Bond torch to Daniel Craig, who ultimately starred in five installments of the franchise before his final appearance in 2021’s No Time To Die.
But while Daniel’s run lasted for one extra film than his predecessor, Pierce admitted he could’ve done without the finale.
“I saw the last one and I saw Skyfall,” Pierce told GQ in 2022. “I love Skyfall. I'm not too sure about the last one.”
Still, Pierce assured the film’s quality was of no fault of the Knives Out actor.
“Daniel always gives of his heart,” he added. “Very courageous. Very strong.”
As for who will take over the iconic character next? While names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Miles Teller have been thrown out as possible recipients of the next license to kill, don’t ask the former agent for his opinion.
“I don’t care,” Pierce continued. “It’ll be interesting to see who they get, who the man shall be. Whoever he be, I wish him well."
