Brock Purdy recalls story of saving a reporter while shooting a John Deere commercial

During an interview on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, April 16, San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Brock Purdy recalled a story where he saved a woman and her dog from a coyote while shooting a John Deere commercial. Yes, that is something that happened in the real world recently.
Purdy, fresh off the first Super Bowl appearance of his career, was a hot commodity for endorsements. Who wouldn't want a piece of Purdy's feel-good story, going from last pick of the NFL Draft to MVP candidate and a Super Bowl starting quarterback? Clearly, John Deere got the memo, inviting Purdy and one of his offensive linemen, right tackle Colton McKivitz, to a commercial shoot in San Francisco.
Here is the commercial in question:
Despite the numerous cameos in the commercial, including Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, US gymnastics legend Gabby Douglas, TikTok star Anna Frey, and the viral "IT'S CORN!" kid, the biggest draw of this commercial remains Purdy's heroics.

What did Purdy do?
According to the reporter who was saved in question, CBS News Bay Area anchor Sara Donchey, "I was walking my dog when this happened," when suddenly she'd heard a voice shout "Coyote!" Afterwards, Donchey recalled, "I turned around and saw the biggest coyote I've ever seen sneaking up behind me and my dog. When I walked down the hill, one of the film crew guys said, 'Hey, Brock Purdy saved your life.' Not exactly, but it's a good story to tell next season."
Not exactly is right. The coyote probably posed no serious threat to Donchey. However, Donchey's dog was certainly in danger of being that coyote's meal, especially if the coyote was as big as Donchey claims. Purdy described the coyote's size as "It looked like a mini-wolf." He also added that this all happened on a hill on the outskirts of San Francisco.
During the interview with McAfee, Purdy mentioned that he didn't even believe it was real in the moment.
Purdy's 2023-24 season
Last year was Purdy's first full season as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. Many people expected Purdy, a former Mr. Irrelevant, to flounder when all eyes were on him. Instead, Purdy became the first 49ers' quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards in over two decades. He was named a Pro Bowler and finished 4th in MVP voting and helped lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance, even pushing Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to overtime before falling 25-22.
Purdy is still on his rookie contract, but will be in line for a massive payday once it expires after 2025.
